After many wintery site walks at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, meetings with The Imperial War Museum and excitable conversations, I’m now tucked up warm on my boat with a cuppa and roaring fire designing our next show 100: UnEarth.
It’s such a treat to revisit the story of Orpheus and Eurydice again.
Twelve years on I’m filtering through original set and costume designs, notes, photographs, images ripped out of magazines and ideas not yet realised. I’m covered in paint and surrounded by drawings and genuinely excited about what it’s starting to look like.
Some images are familiar and some very different to what we have seen before. The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice offers such an amazing sweetshop of visuals up for grabs. Our underworld is strange and speaks of all time and all wars, this really allows for an uncanny mash up of styles. Hopefully beautiful and uncomfortable all at the same time. Celebrating both Love and Death.
